Today’s rant is about the Bohemian Style Enhancer, a Flux 1.d LoRA that (quoting from the model page on Civitai) “embod[ies] the free-spirited and artistic essence of the bohemian style.” It also claims that “The lora is versatile and works well for portraying a range of settings, styles, and poses.” By now, you can probably guess the problem with that statement: there’s no evidence that men factored highly into the development of the the LoRa.

Now, the Lora isn’t used that much; there are only about 20 images (as of this writing) in the gallery. Of course, all of them are female, some with exposed breasts, some without; at least there is no full frontal in these images. (However, for the “hedonistic sex festival” images, the prompt is significantly worse than the generated image1) Bohemian Style is pretty open about it’s sexism. The main trigger word is “Bohemian Style,” but the second listed trigger is “Bohemian woman,” with no matching “Bohemian man.”

I was nervous about this. If the model had not been trained at all on men, it might make it hard to get decent images out of it. For the regendering, I picked a relatively uncontroversial image:

This is amazingly tame for Civitai
The Original Image

The prompt was relatively straight-forwward here:

A bohemian woman sitting on the edge of a wooden pier overlooking a calm lake at sunrise, her feet playfully dipping into the water. She wears a long, flowy dress with layered textures, featuring delicate lace and soft floral patterns. Natural ornaments like braided bracelets, feather earrings, and a flower crown adorn her, blending harmoniously with her serene surroundings. The scene is bathed in earthy tones, with the golden hues of the rising sun reflecting off the water and casting a warm glow over the peaceful setting. <lora:bohemian_style_flux_v1:1>2

I did very little re-writing of the prompt to get the initial re-gendered image, basically replacing the pronouns, and re-writing excessively gendered details. The “production candidate” looked like this:

A bohemian style man sitting on the edge of a wooden pier overlooking a calm lake at sunrise, his feet playfully dipping into the water. He is wearing a long kaftan with layered textures, featuring delicate silk and soft geometric patterns. He is adorned by rich, natural accessories like leather bracelets, a shell necklace and some flowers braided into his beard. These all blending harmoniously with serene surroundings. The scene is bathed in earthy tones, with the golden hues of the rising sun reflecting off the water and casting a warm glow over the peaceful setting.

This got me the following image:

Still very tame for Civitai
The Regendered Image

I did a bit of messing around with the prompt, and by throwing in the XHirsute men LoRA, got a decent first-pass nude:

Still very tame for Civitai
The Regendered Image

I played around a bit with weights there, but lowering the XHirsute too much brought back Flux’s granny panties default. I’m also not crazy about the setting; I think the prompt on the dock could be better. But all of this is not the point of the Regendering project. It’s to show that getting an objectified male is not that hard.

  1. The main part of the prompt requests “A sexy bohemian woman at a hedonistic sex festival on stage spreading her pussy for the audience of naked women and men,” but the woman is not on stage, pussy not visible much less being spread, and no one is actually looking at her. There is an interesting study here: how much AI porn have we avoided because the models have been ruthlessly de-sexualized? More broadly, I’m interested in how resilient images are, or, do small changes in the prompt make for very different result images. ↩

  2. People know this doesn’t work in Flux, right? ↩
